| Explaination | Out of an abundance of caution, I wish to state that I currently serve as a Trustee of the Maryland Historic Trust. Although I do not receive compensation, nor reimbursement for travel or meals, it is important to state that I have been honored with appointment to the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture. This is another appointment for which I shall not receive a salary.
With National Parks interpretive planner Ms. Brianna Candelaria, my small woman-owned practice recently received the commission from the Talbot County Council for the preparation and design of interpretation panels at the Frederick Douglas on the Tuckahoe Park. The award, which is shared with Ms. Candelaria, is a modest $6,000 which does not cover the cost of our employees time. However, it is an important project to us, and we had to bid on it. I hope that this does not represent a conflict of interest. However, if it does, we will not accept the payment which was considerably lower than the other bids.
We would like to continue working with others to celebrate the unique qualities that make Maryland a special place; and to introduce these achievements on a national and global platform. I have never received remuneration for these projects which include exhibitions on African American life in Maryland; founding farmers and watermen; Caribbean peoples; and early religious spirituals unique to Maryland's Eastern Shore.
I sincerely hope that it will be possible to continue with these efforts through collaborations with other Commissioners and Trustees at both the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture and also at the Maryland Historic Trust.
Sincerely, Barbara Paca, Ph.D., O.B.E. |
