A Message from Chris Cavey, Secretary of Appointments. - Attendance Record of Board/Commission Members for Calendar Year 2018
Welcome to the Appointments Office’s web based electronic Attendance Report. This new process is designed to save significant time for providing attendance reports for your boards and commissions and is very easy to navigate. You will now be able to open your current membership list and submit attendance reports for each member currently on your board. You simply fill in the boxes and submit. If there is a member that falls below the 50% attendance requirement then you proceed to the next box and follow the instructions. The passcode for your department’s user has been sent to your department’s Attendance contact person. This passcode will remain the same as last year. If you have not received your passcode, please contact us at the below email address. Please complete your attendance on-line no later than April 2, 2019.
Attendance requirements are set forth in State Government Article, § 8-501 of the Annotated Code of Maryland: “A member of a State board or commission appointed by the Governor who fails to attend at least 50% of the meetings of the board or commission during any consecutive 12-month period shall be considered to have resigned. Not later than January 15 of the year following the end of the 12-month period the chairman of the board or commission shall forward to the Governor: (1) the name of the individual considered to have resigned; and (2) a statement describing the individual’s history of attendance during the period. After receiving the chairman’s statement the Governor shall appoint a successor for the remainder of the term of the individual. If the individual has been unable to attend meetings for reasons satisfactory to the Governor, the Governor may waive the resignation if the reasons are made public.”
